Celebrity Crystal Maze to return with six part series
Channel 4’s rebooted adventure gameshow will return with more ‘celebrity’ line-ups taking on the maze and its brand new Eastern Zone.
Maze Master Richard Ayoade will once again lead the celebrities through each zone in the six-part series, which will see teams take on a host of skill, physical, mental and mystery challenges, in the hope of winning crystals that can be exchanged for time in the iconic Crystal Dome. The ‘celebrities’ will once again aim to win a prize sum for Stand Up To Cancer.
“Leading the pack of celebrity stars, famous-ish names and reality telly faces that are set to tackle the new challenges of the maze is reality dross divvy-diva Gemma Collins and her equally talent-void on-off partner James “Arg” Argent. Channel 4 are using the word celebrity very loosely here.” – TV Critic Vivian Summers
Along with TOWIE faces Gemma Collins and Arg the first episode welcomes former Loose Women host and Countdown numbers expert Carol Vorderman; comedian Ellie Taylor and broadcaster and writer Rick Edwards.
The second edition sees TV presenter Anita Rani captain a team with TV presenter and professional dancer AJ Pritchard, actor and comedian Tom Rosenthal, gold medal winning Paralympian Hannah Cockroft and Sky Sports anchor Jeff Stelling.
The third outing brings to the maze actor Jim Moir better known as comedian Vic Reeves, telly personality Ferne McCann, former English cricketer Graeme Swann and comedian and presenter Susan Calman will take on the maze with actress Nancy Sorrell at the helm.
Ackley Bridge actress Sunetra Sarker will attempt to steer politician Ann Widdecome, reality TV face Wes Nelson, TV presenter Matthew Wright and actress Nikki Sanderson to victory in the fourth edition.
“Just when things looked to be picking up with the delightfully potty Vic Reeves and up for a laugh Carol Vorderman – unless she’s playing Lorraine Kelly on the ITV Lorraine show and you call her Lorraine – but then things take a turn for the worse with Ann Widdecome popping up. Is there no medical science yet that can cure us of Ann appearing on TV?” – TV Critic Vivian Summers
The fifth show welcomes comedian Al Murray, actress Kara Tointon, Hollyoaks actor Ashley Taylor Dawson and reality TV star Olivia Attwood take on the maze with team captain TV and radio presenter Melvin Odoom while the last in the series sees actor Steve Pemberton take charge of professional dancer Oti Mabuse, reality TV star Jack Fincham, TV presenter Anna Richardson and comedian Russell Kane.
With the introduction of the new Eastern Zone that has been very much influenced by the historic art, architecture and monuments of East Asia the latest Crystal Maze show will feel fresh Channel 4 believe.
The show also has a new twist with the added pressure of the new Mega Crystal option a chance to supersize one crystal that, if won, could give them double the time of a regular crystal, there are sure to be a few unexpected hurdles in this new series.
Great the Crystal Maze is coming back they should have Richard o Brian in it sometimes as the past host I think its nice to see this fun show on the telly!
