Hollyoaks’ 25th anniversary to feature Joe McGann in villainous role

Hollyoaks has released a first look image of Edward Hutchinson.

“Edward couldn’t be more different than loveable Tony. He’s a highly manipulative and narcissistic surgeon who has only his best interests at heart. The height of his villainy will build to a huge story running across the anniversary and beyond.” – Hollyoaks spokesperson

It was announced last month that Joe McGann had joined the cast of the Channel 4 soap to play Tony’s estranged father, surgeon Edward Hutchinson. Bosses have now revealed that the character will be Hollyoaks‘ next super villain.

The as-yet undisclosed storyline will run through the saga’s 25th anniversary in October and beyond.

“I’m coming in to play Edward Hutchinson, a surgeon who is going to rustle some feathers around here. I’m looking forward to that.” I’m looking forward very much to joining in with this very good team, the current Soap Champions! 25 years of Tony in Hollyoaks and finally we found out where his dad’s come from. It’s a blessing to be asked to do this, stepping into such a good team with such good characters.” – Joe McGann

Joe McGann’s previous television credits include Casualty, Night and Day, The Upper Hand and Rochliffe’s Babies. His film credits include Puckoon (2002), Food of Love (1997) and The Brylcreem Boys (1998). He has also appeared in various theatre productions, and has been a reporter for the beeb’s South Today programme.

“Hollyoaks has been around for nearly twenty-five years, and I have been there for every single one of them. Yesterday, I had the pleasure of meeting Joe McGann who is coming in to play Tony’s dad, Edward. In 2020 we celebrate our 25th anniversary, so what better way than by getting to know some more of Tony’s family? I have to warn you though, Edward is definitely here to ruffle a few feathers!” – Nick Pickard

Hollyoaks airs on Channel 4 at 6.30pm with the following episode airing at 7pm on E4.
