Slaughterhouse Rulez the spectacularly gory British horror comedy arrives on Sky Cinema

It’s not often we look over to the movies for  a weekend telly treat, but this weekend there’s not a lot on the main box so you may need wander further up the dials for something worth viewing. I’ve opted for this new for Sky Cinema flick, Slaughterhouse Rules – and if you’re more Marry Poppins and Mame, give it a miss.

Former Kula Shaker frontman (remember them?) Crispian Mills directs this spectacularly gory British horror comedy.

Finn Cole of Peaky Blinders fame stars as Don Wallace, a wide-eyed boy from a modest background, he is sent to an illustrious boarding school filled with arcane rules and presided over by sadistic sixth formers.

However, this ancient and ordered world is about to be shaken to its foundations – literally – when a nearby fracking site causes an unspeakable horror to be unleashed. Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Michael Sheen star as the teachers and adults who get wrapped up in the bloody battle for survival, while Asa Butterfield, star of recent Netflix hit Sex Education, plays Don’s new roommate.

Casualty, BBC One at 8.25pm

Not wanting to answer Jacob’s (Charles Venn) questions about his dad, Omo (Ellen Thomas) sends him to work.

Later, after having a fall at home, Omo is rushed to the ED where Dylan (William Beck) examines her and suggests that intervention may not be in her best interest.

Archie (Genesis Lynea) confides in Will (Jack Nolan) that it was Connie (Amanda Mealing) who made the mistake with a patient, not her. Instead of supporting her as expected, Will warns Archie about the dangers of making such accusations without proof. Meanwhile Connie asks Will to monitor Archie, keen to keep an eye on her. 

The Voice Kids, ITV, STV and UTV at 8pm

The big entertainment show for the freshest new talent gets bigger this summer as The Voice Kids continues on ITV. The stage is set and now there are four iconic red chairs in position. 

In this week’s show it’s the final day of the blind auditions as new coach Jessie J, McFly frontman Danny Jones, pop princess Pixie Lott and Voice veteran Will.i.am prepare the teams for next weeks battles.

Both solo singers and double acts between the ages of seven and 14 take to the stage, hoping to get those infamous red chairs spinning and potentially win a £30,000 bursary towards their musical education and a family holiday to Universal Orlando Resort.

Portrait Artist of the Year, Channel 4 at 5pm

Ready, set, paint! Stephen Mangan and Joan Bakewell host the series that aims to uncover the country’s next great portrait artist.

In the second show, David Gandy, Ashley Walters and Anne Reid strike a pose as nine more hopeful artists get four hours to paint their way to the semi-final of the competition.
