Britain’s Next Prime Minister: The ITV Debate to broadcast from Salford studios

Tomorrow night’s live Britain’s Next Prime Minister: The ITV Debate will broadcast from the Salford MediaCityUK studios.

Devil in a clown disguise? Can Boris win over the Tories?

“We are pleased to be hosting what is the biggest political TV event of the year so far, a live televised debate between Jeremy Hunt and Boris Johnson, one of whom will lead this country…” – Michael Jermey, ITV’s Director of News and Current Affairs

ITV has confirmed this evening that dock10 studios at MediaCityUK in Salford will be the venue for the first televised head-to-head debate between the two candidates vying to become our next Prime Minister.

Britain’s Next Prime Minister: The ITV Debate will be broadcast live on ITV at 8pm on Tuesday July 9th, hosted and moderated by Julie Etchingham.

Jeremy Hunt and Boris Johnson will both have the opportunity to make short opening statements at the beginning of the programme, and closing statements at the conclusion of the debate, which will be held in front of a studio audience of around 200 people.

Julie Etchingham will oversee proceedings for ITV, STV and UTV viewers.

Lots were drawn to decide the speaking order for the opening and closing statements.  The name drawn had the choice of whether to go first or second for their opening statement with the other being given the same choice on the closing statement.

Jeremy Hunt’s name was drawn and he has chosen to speak second in opening statements.

Boris Johnson chose to speak second in closing statements. ITV viewers have submitted their questions, and those selected will appear in the studio audience to put their question direct to the candidates.

The hour long programme will have one commercial break.
