Bruce Springsteen club night to mark 70th birthday

Hungry Heart, the world’s only Bruce Springsteen-dedicated club night, is gearing up for its biggest night to date, celebrating the iconic American musician’s 70th birthday.

“I was the person going to clubs and nagging the DJ to play a Springsteen song – which never went down well. Occasionally I’d get a reluctant play of Born in the USA, before the song was mixed quickly out to another artist. Knowing how many Springsteen fans I’d met at concerts around the UK, I knew there must be other people like me who’d love to go on a night out and hear all the songs of their favourite artist played loud in a non-gig environment.” – Hannah Summers, co-founder Hungry Heart and Springsteen blogger at Burgers and Bruce.

Taking place on Saturday 21st September at East London’s spectacular Oval Space, the event will gather 1,000 Springsteen fans to hear seven epic hours of non-stop Springsteen. Tracks will include everything from classic album hits to rarely heard B-sides and original live versions dating back to 1975.

Along with bumper-to-bumper Springsteen from 8pm ‘til 3am, the upcoming September event will feature a huge 6ft x 4ft birthday card for attendees to write a message to Bruce, photobooths, a sign-making station so that fans can request their favourite songs – the way it’s done at Springsteen concerts – and tributes to the legendary E Street Band.

Shake Shack, the popular burger chain, is on board as food partner, and will be giving free burger vouchers to the first 600 Hungry Heart attendees through the door, to be redeemed at a Shake Shack restaurant before the end of the year. Hungry Heart will also be donating a percentage of any profits taken to the Campaign to End Loneliness, recognising the bonds and friendships that Springsteen’s music creates.

Hungry Heart was founded early last year by three Springsteen superfans – Hannah Summers, Thom Elliot and Jon Beck of Redline DJs & Entertainment.

Fresh off the back of a sold out UK & Ireland tour, taking in London, Leeds, Liverpool, Glasgow, London, Cardiff, Belfast and Dublin, Hungry Heart is making waves as the UK’s most unexpected, feel-good alternative night out. This summer, it was selected by Columbia Records to hold an exclusive launch party for Springsteen’s new album, Western Stars.

Hardcore Springsteen fan Hannah Summers was treated to a burger chat with Springsteen in 2013, and has spent years longing to hear Springsteen’s music on nights out. In 2018, with a full-band tour looking unlikely, it became clear that she had to set up her own night.

Tickets for the September event are now on sale at £17.50 (early bird and first release tickets are already sold out). The first 600 fans through the door will also be given a voucher to claim a free Shake Shack burger before the end of the year.
