Channel 5 look at HMS Dreadnought in the World’s Greatest Warships

Telly Today: Television highlights for Wednesday, September 11th with ITV still in their Deep Water while Channel 5 are on the high seas with big gun ships.

One to Watch: World’s Greatest Warships, Channel 5 at 9pm

In the second episode of the three-part series World’s Greatest Warships continues its fascinating history of modern warships with the story of the Dreadnoughts, a turbine-powered big gunship that revolutionised the rules of engagement on the high seas.

When the Royal Navy battleship HMS Dreadnought was launched in 1906 it was described as ‘the most deadly fighting machine ever launched in the history of the world’.

With its unprecedented top speed of 21knots, eleven inch thick armour and the destructive firepower of ten big guns, it marked a new era in naval construction.

Deep Water, ITV, STV and UTV at 9pm

With Lucinda now back at the Rivertys’ home and Joe having left Lisa there, Lisa starts a long walk home. She finds a sullen Joe in a local bar and watches as he drinks and flirts with the barmaid, and when he doesn’t come home the next morning, Lisa fears the worst. Traumatised from the attack, Roz makes her way home and finds a furious and worried Joanne waiting for her. With no one else to confide in, Roz tells Scott all about Wayne. He promises to deal with Wayne and to protect them both by retrieving the footage.

Kate scrambles to hide her secret from Guy, but his suspicions, about where Lucinda has been, begin to mount and he walks out on Kate. Kate follows him to a second home and an even bigger secret of his own. Feeling isolated from her family and from Joe, Lisa returns to the bar and begins to drink. Winston drops Abby at home from a day out. At her lowest ebb, Roz relents and allows him home. Abby gets her hopes up, but when Roz discovers Winston has quit his job, she asks him to leave again. And Abby goes with him.

Interior Design Master, BBC Two at 8pm

The stakes are raised this week, as the five remaining designers undertake their biggest project so far. Michelle puts them into a team of two and a team of three, and tells them they have an entire holiday lodge to design: they’ll take one bedroom each and collaborate with their team on a kitchen/diner and outdoor space.

As the task gets under way two of the designers pull plans together and work hard for the good of the team. But can one member of the team (who is notorious for her design ambitions) rein in her ideas – or will her ambition get the better of her and leave the lodge unfinished for the judges?

Helping Michelle this week is guest Judge Abigail Ahern. Abigail is an influential tastemaker always ahead of the design trail, whether pioneering faux flowers or dark, inky colour palettes. With trendsetting eclectic designs, and a portfolio that spans lavish residential properties to the Ritz Carlton Palm Beach hotel, she knows more than most what makes winning interior design.

High Society: Cannabis Cafe, Channel 4 at 10.15pm

Ten intrepid Brits get high on cannabis in an Amsterdam coffee shop in this the final of the two-part mini-series.

The visitors come from all walks of life and each have their own motivation for trying weed, from pain-relief to helping a relationship through a rocky patch. This time, Kellie Maloney and Jamie ‘Rocky’ Johnson, two giants of the boxing world, have life-changing questions for each other.

There’s also Jeff and Abby – a quarrelsome father and daughter from Birmingham; and Celine and Oliver, an Edinburgh couple who can’t agree on whether or not to have children. Will getting high help resolve their issues? Also on board, ticking an item off their bucket list, are four women from the Welsh choir Only Menopause Aloud.
