Timothy West and Prunella Scales are back on the canals

Best on the Box highlights for Sunday October 20th.

One to Watch: Great Canal Journey’s, Channel 4 at 8pm

Timothy West, of ATV’s Edward VII and BBC One’s EastEnders fame, and wife Prunella Scales, best loved as Cybil in Fawlty Towers, return to the Oxford Canal – the waterway where they first fell in love with boating over 40 years ago.

Aboard their own boat, they travel north from Banbury, heading for the old canal port of Braunston, joined by their daughter Juliet and sons Sam and Joe.

As they navigate their way through the beautiful Cherwell Valley, Tim and Pru look back at some their favourite voyages on the inland waterways of Britain and Ireland.

As well as remembering great moments of joy and wonder, the voyage is tinged with sadness given the recent deterioration in Pru’s dementia: ‘We’ve been instantaneously swapping ideas and feelings for a large number of years,’ says Tim, ‘but now we can’t…’

And then it’s back to business as the couple with the lowest combined scores must take to the ballroom floor for a second time.
