Sally Dynevor talks Coronation Street role

Coronation Street’s Sally Dynevor has spoken about her early days with the ITV Granada saga.

Dynevor has played the role of Sally Metcalfe in the soap for almost 35 years, but never envisioned that the part would be so long-running.

“I think I was really shy the first few months. I kept my head down and I didn’t say very much. I just did as I was told. I didn’t think I was going to be staying very long, so I thought I would just do my job and be off. But my contract got extended and extended.” – Sally Dynevor

The 56-year-old actress is enjoying playing Sally as much as ever and feels “very lucky” to be doing so.

“You pick up a new script and get excited all over again,” she said.

She went on to note that she would walk away from the part were she to stop deriving satisfaction from it.

The star added: “She makes daft decisions and says daft things, but I think the viewers know that deep down she has a good heart, that she’s a good person. There’s a mixture of comedy and tragedy in her life.”
