ITV announces ‘all live’ morning schedule for 2020

Good Morning Britain, Lorraine and This Morning will air in extended slots from January 6th.

Good Morning Britain will be extended by half an hour to run from 6am until 9am, eating into the slot previously occupied by Lorraine from 8.30am.

Lorraine Kelly’s eponymous show will now air at 9am and will be followed at 10am by This Morning, also extended by 30 minutes, before Loose Women at 12.30pm, ending at 1.30pm.

“The ITV daytime teams consists of the very best on screen and off screen talent in the business, enabling us to set the agenda from early morning until the afternoon, as we pass the baton from show to show. We can’t wait to bring our audiences an even greater abundance of personalities, surprises, warmth and humour and a bigger and better schedule for 2020.” – Emma Gormley, Managing Director ITV Daytime

The reshuffle follows The Jeremy Kyle Show being dropped from ITV’s daytime schedule in May over the suicide of a recent participant. Steve Dymond, 63, appeared on the conflict-resolution programme to prove that he hadn’t cheated on his girlfriend, however, a lie detector failed to return in his favour.

The Jeremy Kyle Show had long been criticised for its parading of the vulnerable and troubled on television in the name of entertainment. Carolyn McCall, ITV CEO, noted in a statement it was “the right time for the show to end”.

“Live television is at the core of what we do and our new schedule presents the opportunity to engage with our audience throughout the first part of each day, with some of the most well-known shows on television, in a way that no other channel does.” – Kevin Lygo, Director of Television
