BBC reveal Doctor Who return date for 2020

The second series starring Jodie Whittaker will launch on BBC One in January.

Whittaker made her debut as the thirteenth doctor in the 2017 Christmas special, it saw the departure of Peter Capaldi who had played the doctor since 2013. The wait for the second series has been quite sometime, following Whittaker’s first run of episodes in 2018, there has been no main series this year. There has been no reason given for the delay, however production on the forthcoming series began in November last year according to the Radio Times.

The Beeb have now confirmed that ‘the Thirteenth Doctor is in her TARDIS on her way back to BBC One’ with the first episode of the ten-part series airing on New Years’ Day 2020.  The subsequent nine episodes will be broadcast on Sundays. The exact transmission times for the BBC One schedule however is yet to be announced by the corporation.

Guest role for Sir Lenny Henry.

Starting with a blockbuster action packed two-part episode entitled Spyfall, the first female Doctor in the history of ‘who’ is well and truly back with a bang. As Jodie Whittaker takes charge of the drama once again, the time lord will be joined by her friends Tosin Cole (Ryan), Mandip Gill (Yaz) and Bradley Walsh (Graham).

The twelfth series will also welcome a host of famous faces including Stephen Fry, Sir Lenny Henry CBE, Robert Glenister and Goran Višnjić to name just a few.

Add to that some familiar faces including the Judoon and the Cybermen, series twelve is set to be an epic action packed rollercoaster for everyone, just don’t stray too far from behind the sofa… Spyfall has been written by Chris Chibnall, Showrunner.
