Kevin Clifton has announced on his Instagram page that he has quit Strictly Come Dancing.
The professional dancer first joined Strictly in 2013 where he was partnered with Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid. In 2018 he went on to win the series with journalist Stacey Dooley. He leaves the show as the reigning champion after picking up the glitter ball with Debbie McGee (pictured above) on the Strictly Christmas special.
Making the announcement, Clifton said he wants to focus on other areas of his career.
“…I want to leave on a high and have therefore decided the time has come to move on and focus on other areas of my life and career.”
The 32-year-old said that he is grateful to the BBC and Strictly Come Dancing for giving him the opportunity. He went on to thank all the celebrities he had been paired with over the years and thanked the “Strictly family” for making it the “loveliest show to work for.” During his run on the show, Kevin made it to five live finals.
“To me Strictly always has been and always will be the best show on tv and has been an absolute dream and honour to be a part of.”
In 2019 Kevin was paired with TV legend Anneka Rice but were eliminated from the competition in the second week. Kevin returned mid-run to dance with England professional Alex Scott after her dance partner, Neil Jones, was injured.
