ITV has suspended filming of Coronation Street and Emmerdale due to the coronavirus outbreak.
ITV has now followed the BBC in stopping production of its main soaps. In a statement released this afternoon, ITV confirmed that from tomorrow, production on its two soaps will stop.
The broadcaster insists that it has enough episodes filmed to keep broadcasting until early summer.
“…the health and well-being of the production teams, actors, crew and their families is of paramount importance to us and we now feel that the time has come to stop filming.” – ITV statement
Earlier in the week ITV had said production would be continuing on both soaps but with a reduced cast. It was also announced that they would be dropping a number of episodes a week.
Coronation Street will now air Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7.30pm and Emmerdale will air Monday to Friday at 7.00pm.
The BBC has already stopped production on shows such as EastEnders, River City and Casualty. As a result EastEnders will now only air 2 episodes a week, broadcasting on Monday at 8.00pm and Tuesday at 8.30pm.
