Alexandra Burke wins X Factor 2008
Alexandra Burke has won ITV’s titan singing contest The X-Factor beating off tough competition from boyband JLS and Irish singer Eoghan Quigg.
Alexandra Burke won The X-Factor last night after pulling in the most votes from viewers. The singer, from London, beat off tough competition from boyband JLS and singer Eoghan Quigg. According to the show’s host, Dermot O’Leary, over eight million votes were cast last night in the finale of the current series. Alexandra Burke song with American singer Beyonce and performed Hallelujah, which will now be released aiming for the Christmas Number One crown. Irish singer Eoghan Quigg came in third and was voted off first in the live finale. Quigg, who is just 16, performed in the finale with Irish boyband Boyzone, who have only recently reformed. Quigg was mentored by Louis Walsh. Boyband JLS, mentored by Simon Cowell, performed with another Irish group, Westlife, but their performance wasn’t enough to win the competition. Upon hearing the news the four piece group were clearly upset but said they would continue to pursue their dream. Alexandra Burke’s mentor was Cheryl Cole who only joined the series this year as a judge, replacing Sharon Osbourne who had decided to quit the singing contest. Her success in her first year on the show follows fellow judges Danni Minogue’s success last year with Leon Jackson, it was Minogue’s first year on the panel in 2007 when her act won the competition.
