Seagulls could hamper Corrie move
Seagulls could hamper plans to move the filming of Coronation Street from its present location to a new base at MediaCityUK.
The proposed site for a new exterior set for the soap is apparently riddled with seagulls as its by the waterside.
The News of the World notes that bosses are worried about the prospect of seagulls ‘ruining scenes by flying into shot or making too much noise’ – forcing expensive reshoots. Another perhaps more minor concern is that pigeons are far more likely to be seen where the show is supposed to be set.
“We are continuing to examine the available options regarding ITV’s Manchester base,” a source noted to the tabloid.
The paper claims bosses have even considered poisoning or shooting the seagulls, which could incur the wrath of animal rights activists.
Coronation Street‘s relocation has been mooted for a few years now but no decision has formally been taken. Any such move would allow easier filming for the production crew of the soap which currently occupies two separate studios.
“Currently the indoor filming is done in two studios which are around 400 yards apart which causes logistical problems.” – Coronation Street spokesperson
