Re-branding for Sci Fi
The Sci Fi Channel is set to change its name, well sort off, and introduce new logo’s and on-screen branding as part of a shake-up to attract new audiences.
After sixteen The Sci Fi Channel will no longer be known as The Sci Fi Channel as the channel changes its name, branding and logo to attract new audiences. The cable company is owned by NBC Universal and from July it’ll be known as “SyFy” which sounds more or less like its current name. As well as a new name the channel will have a new slogan “Imagine Greater” and also new logo and on-screen indents.
The move, which has been planned for over a year now, is an attempt to attract new audiences to the channel. Top execs feel that the name Sci Fi is too limiting and puts off potential audiences for its critically acclaimed original shows, such as Battlestar Galactica, Eureka and Tin Man. New original programming, such as Warehouse 13, is also being launched to bring in new audiences as well as spin-off shows from established brands; Stargate Unvierse and Caprica being two such examples.
The new branding will be revealed to advertises shortly before rolling out on-screens in July.
