Corrie return for O’Brien?
Former Coronation Street actress Tina O’Brien hints at a future return for her character Sarah-Louise Platt.
Tina O’Brien has hinted at a possible return, sometime in the future, for her Coronation Street actress Sarah-Louise Platt. O’Brien starred in the ITV soap for eight years playing Sarah Platt, taking over in 1999 from previous actress Lynsay King. During her time on the soap the character was involved in a number of high-profile and controversial storylines such as a teen pregnancy, teen marriage, a gay love triangle and several kidnappings. However, after eight years in the role actress Tina O’Brien decided to quit the soap to try her luck with other acting roles – which haven’t been forthcoming.
Last year her boyfriend Ryan Thomas, who still plays Jason Grimshaw in Coronation Street, called for O’Brien to return to the soap claiming he missed working alongside her. However, the actress isn’t likely to return to the soap anytime soon as she gave birth in October to her first daughter. But the actress hasn’t ruled out returning to the soap in the near future.
“I was there for eight years. I love the people. I loved the show very much, but it’s a long time to be in one place. I wouldn’t say that I’d never go back but for the time being I can’t. I’m with Scarlett and I’m enjoying that.” – O’Brien talking to The Sun.
While mum Gail Platt [Helen Worth] and grandmother Audrey Roberts [Sue Nicholls] would be glad to see Sarah return to Coronation Street they’d be a few residents who wouldn’t be so impressed by brother David [Jack P Shepherd] who went out of his way to make Sarah’s life hell and Eileen Grimshaw [Sue Cleaver] who blames Sarah for driving away her gay son Todd following his disastrous relationship with Sarah. Eileen’s nose was further put out of joint by Sarah when she started to date Todd’s brother, Jason and later married him – despite David’s best attempts at stopping the wedding including faking his own suicide. However, the marriage didn’t last as Sarah quickly fled to Italy to work her her Uncle leaving Jason behind and Eileen to pick up the pieces – further adding to her dislike of Sarah.
