The Sun reports that the actress is to reprise her role of Clare Bates in the soap who will “shake things up” when she returns to Walford.

Gemma recently starred in Channel 4 teen serial Hollyoaks as superbitch Clare Devine. She was a child actress when she originally joined EastEnders in 1993 alongside Nicola Duffet as Clare’s mum, Debbie, Nigel Bates’ new girlfriend.

Debbie was killed off in the plots in 1995 while Clare became the subject of a nasty court battle between Nigel and her real father. She was later involved in a bullying storyline after falling out with best friend Sonia.

Clare and Nigel departed the Square for a fresh start in Scotland in 1998 after Nigel found love again.

Gemma recently won a Villain of the Year award for her role as Hollyoaks’ devious Clare (pictured below).
