Cheryl Cole 'helps' Joe McElderry get new record deal

Cole was the mentor for McElderry during his time on the X Factor in 2009 – he won the series beating Olly Murs. On Sunday evening McElderry beat Cheryl Baker in Popstar to Operastar and he’s now reportedly signed a new deal with Universal with a little help from Cole – that’s according to The Sun.

“Joe is thrilled. It looked like he was on the scrapheap but Cheryl has come to his rescue and put in a word reminding bosses what a big talent he is. Joe and Cheryl have always had a bond and they keep in touch. While Joe McElderry had chart success with his debut single his following releases failed to light up the charts and he was later dropped by Sowell’s label. However, his appearance on ITV’s Popstar to Operastar may have revitalised his career. TV Biz claims the singer is already working on choosing tracks for an album- with a possible classical theme.
