The News of the World is reporting that Coronation Street actor Reece Dinsdale has decided to quit the Granada soap due to typecasting concerns. The actor plays Joe McIntyre in the soap and was offered a pay rise to stay with the soap but turned it down. The character of Joe was first introduced in May 2008 as the father of Tina [Michelle Keegan] and quickly entered into a romance with Gail Platt [Helen Worth]. Since then Joe has been involved with a feud with the neighbouring Windass family and developed an addiction to pain killers. It’s expected the character’s exit from the soap will be tied in with his on-going addiction.

“Reece has been a massive hit and top brass thought they could strike a long-term deal. He was offered a massive pay rise but he turned it down. Executives were surprised. They wanted him to [stay] but he’s wriggled off the hook.” – Corrie ‘source’ quoted in News of the World.

According to the tabloid the actor was offered £100,000 to stay with the series. Dinsdale is the latest actor to quit the soap over fears of being typecast. At the start of the year actor Rob James-Collier bowed out of the soap as Liam Connor, being killed off, due to fears over typecasting. Actor Sean Gallagher, who played Paul Connor, also quit the soap for similar reasons.
