Tyne Tees news host ‘Swine Flu’ tests

North East Tonight host Pam Royle is undergoing medical tests.

Former LWT and long-serving Tyne Tees News presenter Pam Royle has become one of the latest Britons suspected to be suffering from ‘swine flu’ reports suggest. Royle, who is the main anchor of North East Tonight, became ill over the weekend after returning from a Caribbean holiday.

Pam has been a main face at the Gateshead-based Tyne Tees for over two decades, fronting many news, features and lifestyle programming for the company over those years including Primetime, North East Today and Northern Life. Prior to her main news and factual role with Tyne Tees she worked as a newsreader for London Weekend Television News and had a spell at the ATV Centre in Birmingham working as a continuity announcer for Central Television in the Midlands. Pam also has worked for Tyne Tees as a weather presenter in the early 1980s.

Speaking to the Evening Chronicle Pam said: “I am still quite ill, but I am a lot better than I was. I had flu last winter and I do not think it’s any worse that. Its just typical flu symptoms.”

Pam and husband Mike had been celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary in St Lucia. Pam will be known to some network ITV viewers from her appearance on the Alright On The Night out-take show; in the programme, Royle appears on-screen unexpectedly as a news report ends visually early, however, the audio continues over Pam with the comment “This cow will have to be put down”. Cue her shocked face.

North East Tonight airs at 6.00pm on ITV Tyne Tees.
