BBC acquires UK rights for Pan Am

{jcomments on}The BBC has acquired the UK rights for ABC’s 1960s drama Pan Am.

The drama will air on BBC Two in the UK which has previously shown American dramas such as Heroes, The Tudors and Mad Men – repeating episodes shown on BBC Four where the critically acclaimed drama usually aired until it was acquired by Sky Atlantic. ABC has high hopes for Pan Am in America alongside its new drama Once Upon a Time and its revived Charlie’s Angels – if all three are successful there are rumours it will end Desperate Housewives after its 8th season.

Pan Am is set in the 1963s and follows the live and loves of a group of Pan-Am pilots and air hostesses when air-flight was seen as luxurious. The stars Christina Ricci, Kelli Garner, Michael Mosley and Mike Vogel. It has already been dubbed the ‘Mad Men of the skies‘ by some. So far Pan Am is the corporations only acquisition at the LA Screenings which is in tune with the BBC’s desire to spend less on programmes it acquires from abroad – especially America. In more recent years the BBC has moved towards buying programmes from Europe such as the Swedish version of Wallander and the critically acclaimed Danish drama The Killing.
