Lynn Bowles quits Radio 2 traffic role

Lynn Bowles to depart BBC Radio 2 after nearly two decades.

“After 18 long years of my alarm clock waking me at 4am, it’s time to destroy it with some heavy machinery. During my time at BBC Radio 2 I’ve done my best to make Ken Bruce acceptable to polite society. I’m not entirely sure I have been successful in my endeavours. Working with Sir Terry Wogan was a joy. I was inducted into the practice of eating curries and full Christmas dinners early in the mornings. Luckily for me the madness continued when Chris Evans took over the Breakfast Show.” – Lynn Bowles

Lynn has presented the travel and traffic news on Radio 2 since 2000 and has worked on air with DJs including Sarah Kennedy, Vanessa Feltz, Terry Wogan – who referred to Lynn as the ‘Totty from Splotty’ and Chris Evans. Lynn has worked with Ken Bruce for the full 18 years of her tenure.

The travel presenter will be heard on the beeb service for the final time on Thursday 29th March. However, her farewell from national airwaves isn’t the end of her broadcasting era with the beeb. Lynn will continue to present her BBC Radio Wales show live from Cardiff each week from 2-4pm.

Previous roles have seen her working for BBC Radio Five Live, LBC and Children In Need. Lynn shared the traffic airwaves on Radio 2 with Sally Boazman, known to many of beeb two listeners as simply “Sally Traffic”, who is most often heard across the weekday afternoons. No replacement has been announced as yet by the corporation.

Paying tribute to the broadcaster Lewis Carnie, Head of Radio 2, said in a statement that ‘Lynn is a much-loved part of the Radio 2 family, keeping Terry, Chris and Ken on their toes for all these years’ he added that she had provided ‘an invaluable service to millions of listeners’ and he would ‘like to thank her for her 18 years of early starts, and wish her the best of luck for the future.’

“I’m looking forward to seeing a little less of the M4, and a little more of my home territory of Wales in the future. I’d like to thank Radio 2 and all the fabulously informative motorists and truckers who have allowed me to do my bit trying to keep traffic moving around the UK” – Lynn Bowles
