Daytime Emmy Nominations Announced

The nominations for this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards have been announced with ABC soap General Hospital bagging 23 nods.

The medical soap’s raft of nominations comes just weeks after it was given a year’s grace by ABC – renewal until next year. The veteran soap opera was looking decidedly vulnerable and widely tipped for the axe following ABC’s shock cancellation of All My Children and One Life to Live. Despite falling ratings General Hospital was renewed partly because of the failure of The Revolution, the One Life to Live replacement, to take off with daytime viewers.

Amongst the categories in which General Hospital has been nominated in is Best Drama Series in which it will be up against Days of our Lives, The Young and the Restless and All My Children though sadly not the excellent One Life to Live. However, The Bold and the Beautiful, which has won the award for the past three years, has not recieved a nomination in the category. It is however the only soap to be nominated in the New Approaches category where it is up against The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Today Show and Lollipop.

Despite being cancelled by ABC, and now being off-air, All My Children and One Life to Live receive a number of nominations in various categories – both totalling 11 in all. The Bold and the Beautiful also totals 11 nominations, Days of our Lives received 15 nominations with The Young and the Restless ahead slightly with 16.
