Strong launch for The Borgias on Sky Atlantic

The BorgiasHistorical drama The Borgias got off to a strong start on Saturday evening on Sky Atlantic.

The series, similar in style to fellow Showtime drama The Tudors, revolves around the notorious Italian criminal family that lived during the renaissance. The series stars Jeremy Irons as Rodrigo Borgia, the patriarch of the family who aims to become pope. The series also stars Derek Jacobi, Holliday Grainger, Sean Harris and Joanne Whalley.

The Borgias launched on Sky Atlantic on Saturday evening with a double-bill to strong ratings. The first episode of the series averaged 576,000 viewers at 9pm with the second episode at 10pm dropping slightly to 409,000 viewers according to ratings data released by Attentional. The two ratings figures are far better than the slot averages for Sky Atlantic so far this year.
