William Shatner Confirmed For Have I Got News For You
Star Trek icon William Shatner will guest present an edition of Have I Got News For You.
The Canadian actor will present the satirically news quiz show at the end of the month, on Friday 25th May. Joining Shatner in the edition of Have I Got News For You will be Charlie Brooker and Andy Hamilton as panellists alongside team captains Ian Hislop and Paul Merton.
“English sense of humour is different from American sense of humour. Luckily I’m Canadian” – William Shatner.
Shatner is, of course, best known for his role of James T Kirk in the original series of Star Trek and subsequent movies. The character was controversially killed off in the 1994 movie Star Trek: Generations and while there was talk of a possible revival of Kirk in spin-off series Star Trek: Enterprise unfortunately the character remained dead.
Shatner’s other notable roles include T.J Hooker alongside Heather Locklear, short-lived comedy $#*! My Dad Says and Boston Legal which starred Rene Auberjonios who played Odo in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Shatner also made several appearances on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien in which he mocked Sarah Palin’s resignation speech and later her autobiography.
Recent guest hosts of Have I Got News For You have included Homeland actor Damien Lewis, comedian Jo Brand and last week Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson who, as you may have expected, got a rough time from Hislop and Merton. Friday’s edition will see Alexander Armstrong present the news quiz for a record 20th time. Armstrong will be joined on the show by regular Reginald D Hunter and Tory MP Nadine Dorries.
The MP for Bedford recently led a very outspoken attack on George Osborne and David Cameron saying “Unfortunately I think that not only are they two posh boys who don’t know the price of milk but two arrogant posh boys who show no remorse, no contrition and no passion to understand the lives of others and that’s the crime”.
Following last week’s local election defeats for the Tory Party the MP claimed that by Christmas there would be enough MP’s in the part who wanted Cameron to step down to spark a leadership challenge. A prospect many in the country may welcome but one which George Osborne was quick to dismiss.
