CBS Picks Up Elementary

CBS has picked up its Sherlock Holmes pilot Elementary as well as several other series’.

CBS’s modern-day version of Sherlock Holmes, titled Elementary, starring Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu has been picked up for a series. Elementary has certainly generated a lot of buzz and was widely seen as a favourite for a series order by CBS. It has also generated a lot of press interest in the UK because of its similarities to BBC One drama Sherlock which stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. The BBC updated Sherlock Holmes was created by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat and its producers have already warned CBS they’ll sue if any of their original material ends up in Elementary.

Also picked up is period piece Vegas which tells the true story of Ralph Lamb, a rodeo cowboy turned sheriff of Las Vegas. In some ways Vegas is well outside of CBS’s comfort zone given its period setting but it is a crime series as well so on many levels fits CBS’s drama output perfectly. The 1960s, in which Vegas is set, has not proven fortunate for axed drama’s Pan Am and Playboy Club. Vegas will star Jason O’Mara, Carrie-Ann Moss and Michael Chiklis.

CBS has also picked up Made in New Jersey starring Janet Montgomery and Golden Boy starring Theo James. Comedy wise CBS has ordered Friend Me and Partners.
