Best on the Box: This Morning Picture Special
ATV Today Editor Shaun Linden presents a This Morning photo gallery special as its 30th anniversary week comes to a close.

Before This Morning, Richard and Judy were regional personalities on ITV’s Granada Television in the North West.

On October 3rd 1988 This Morning broadcast from the Albert Dock in Liverpool for the first time.

Husband and wife team Richard Madley and Judy Finnigan hosted This Morning from Liverpool for the show’s first eight years.

In 1996 This Morning moved into its own custom made Studio 8 at ITV’s London Studios, the original home of LWT.

October 3rd 1998 saw the regulars, with Richard and Judy, celebrate a decade on air, but things would soon change…

After 13-years Richard and Judy, unhappy with ITV daytime management, quit for Channel 4. Top brass at the station brought in ’60s model Twiggy and 80s singer Coleen Nolan as the new faces of This Morning.

This Morning Friday hosts during the final years with Richard and Judy had been a mix of Caron Keating, Fern Britton, Ross Kelly and John Leslie. John and Fern eventually took over the show following Twiggy and Colleen’s disastrous ratings saw the show revamped.

John’s time with the show came to an unexpected end when un-proven allegations were made against the former Blue Peter presenter.

A new era arrived with another occasional Friday and cover host Phillip Schofield taking over the main hosting duties alongside Fern Britton.

Phillip had been best known as host of Going Live! on BBC One before switching to ‘grown up’ TV.

In 2009 Fern made the shock announcement she was to leave the show after a decade.

Phillip’s Dancing on Ice co-presenter Holly Willoughby joined as the main female co-host.

Phillip and Holly have seen the show relocate from ITV Studios on the Southbank in London to Television Centre, in West London.

The show will remain at the former home of the BBC for the next five years while the ITV centre is demolished and rebuilt.

Friday hosts, husband and wife duo, Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have become the regular secondary hosts.

This Morning return to the Albert Docks, Liverpool, for its 25th anniversary with Phillip and Holly, Eamonn and Ruth and Richard and Judy.

Ruth first hosted the show as a guest-presenter in 1999.

Eamonn joined the show in 2006, having previously worked for GMTV and This Morning rival Open Air on BBC One.

This Morning: 30 Unforgettable Years can be seen again later today at 10am on ITV, STV and UTV.

Holly and Phillip – the worst pair. The ‘giggles’ are enhanced to make it like it was in the Phil and Fern days. If only things were different we’d be still enjoying, probably, John Leslie and Fern Britton – the best pair after Richard and Judy.
It was better in the Richard & Judy days than it is now. As claimed in the documentary, Holly hasn’t taken the show to new heights at all. Going off the ratings Holly & Phil are the least popular presenting pair.
