America’s Got Talent Ratings Down On Last Year’s Premier

The season premier of America’s Got Talent on NBC, with new judge Howard Stern debuting, saw ratings drop on last year’s figures.

8pm: CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother won the 8pm hour in terms of 18-49 viewers with a 3.6 rating and 8.4 million viewers overall. The season premier of America’s Got Talent on NBC also had a 3.6 rating but that was between 8pm and 10pm – so represented the two-hour finale as a whole. The new season of America’s Got Talent saw Howard Stern take his place on the judges panel despite a protest from the Parents Television Council. Overall the talent contest had 10.3 million viewers but was down on last year’s premier. ABC’s Dancing with the Stars won the 8pm hour total viewers wise with 14.7 million viewers but had a 2.4 18-49 rating. The season finale of Bones on Fox drew 7 million viewers with a 1.9 rating while the fifth season finale of Gossip Girl on The CW was seen by 1.1 million viewers with a 0.6 rating.

At 9pm CBS comedy Two and a Half Men drew to a close for another season with 11.3 million viewers with a 3.8 18-49 rating – it will be back with all the main cast for a new season in the Autumn. Fellow CBS comedy Mike & Molly also reached its season finale with 11.6 million viewers and a 3.3 18-49 rating. House on Fox attracted 6.4 million viewers with a 2.2 rating while the season finale of Hart of Dixie pulled in 1.5 million viewers, a 0.6 rating, to The CW. On ABC the first half hour saw Dancing with the Stars continue with 17.1 million viewers scoring a 2.9 rating. At 9.30 on the broadcaster dating series The Bachelor returned for a new run with 9.3 million viewers and a 2.6 rating.

At 10pm detective drama Hawaii Five-O reached its season finale with 11.2 million viewers and had an 18-49 rating of 2.5.c The Bachelor ontinued on ABC with 7.7 million viewers with a 2.5 rating. NBC’s musical comedy Smash starring Jack Davenport and Anjelica Huston concluded with 6 million viewers and a 1.8 rating – while NBC has renewed the series it will hold it back to mid-season to allow producers to make necessary changes to the series.
