Soccer Aid for Unicef live on ITV

One to Watch: Soccer Aid 2019, ITV, STV and UTV at 6.30pm

Soccer Aid for Unicef is kicking off live Sunday 16th June from 6.30pm exclusively on ITV in England and Wales, UTV across Northern Ireland and Scotland’s STV.

Returning to London for the first time in over a decade, the star-studded event will take place at Chelsea FC’s Stamford Bridge Stadium and features a host of stars from the world of entertainment and football.

Soccer Aid for Unicef is more than just a match, the show will be presented by Dermot O’Leary, with Kirsty Gallacher lining up as official pitch-side reporter.

Battling it out on the pitch on the England squad will be legends Michael Owen, Joe Cole, David Seaman, Glen Johnson, Jamie Redknapp, John Terry, and – for the first time ever – female players Katie Chapman and Rachel Yankey. They’ll be joined by celebrities Sir Mo Farah, Mark Wright, David Harewood, Joe Wicks, F2 Freestyler Jeremy Lynch, Ben Shepherd, Lee Mack, Marvin Humes, Ant Middleton and Danny Jones, all under the watchful eye of co-managers Susanna Reid and Sam Allardyce.

Hoping to claim back the trophy for the Soccer Aid World XI are legends Didier Drogba, Eric Cantona, Robbie Keane, Michael Essien, Ricardo Carvalho, Roberto Carlos, Robert Pires, and Brazilian ex-internationals Franzinha and Rosana. They’ll be joined by stars Usain Bolt, Niall Horan, James McAvoy, Danny O’Carroll, Nicky Byrne, F2 Freestyler Billy Wingrove, Kem Cetinay, Locksmith, Jack Savoretti, Roman Kemp and Martin Compston, taking their orders from Harry Redknapp and Piers Morgan.

For the first time ever, the match will feature an exclusive half-time performance from Unicef UK Ambassador Rita Ora, who also features in one of this year’s short films highlighting the work made possible through donations to Soccer Aid for Unicef, and why the donations are needed more than ever.

Films with fellow Unicef UK Ambassadors James Nesbitt, and Olivia Colman, and supporters David Harewood, Gemma Chan, and Sanjeev Bhasker will also be shown throughout the show, showing how Soccer Aid for Unicef helps defend play for every child. Commentary will come from the legendary Clive Tyldesley.

Top Gear: First cars to Ethiopia, BBC Two at 8pm

Everyone remembers their first car, no matter how rubbish. The freedom. The independence. The terrible brakes. The terrible smells. Keen to delve into our new presenting team’s motoring history, the producers told Paddy McGuinness, Freddie Flintoff and Chris Harris to each go out and buy a fine example of their own first car, for just a couple of thousand pounds. And, if a fine example of their first car didn’t exist for just a couple of thousand pounds, at least an example that worked a bit.

Purchases secured, the presenters were told to report for testing in… Ethiopia. Naturally. The birthplace of humankind. A land of vast mountains, jaw-dropping world heritage sites, and the Danakil Depression, the hottest year-round place on Earth. Obviously the presenters were ordered to drive to the latter.

The Handmaid’s Tale, Channel 4 at 9pm

The third series of the stateside drama continues tonight with the second episode entitled Mary and Martha. Set in a dystopian society that treats women as property of the state, forcing those who are fertile into sexual servitude to repopulate a devastated world.

Based on the best-selling novel by Margaret Atwood and starring Elisabeth Moss. In the second episode, June helps Marthas with a dangerous task while navigating a relationship with her pious and untrustworthy new walking partner.

The Alcásser Murders, Netflix streaming currently

The Alcàsser Murders, a true crime documentary, which analyzes and investigates one of the most gruesome and controversial crimes in Spanish history across five episodes.

The triple murder in 1992 shook the foundations of Spanish society and crossed borders, not only in its brutality, but also because of its shocking broadcast and exploitation by the media. Twenty five years have passed and the mystery is still unresolved.

The passing of time, instead of shedding light on this case, triggered a whole series of serious rumors about lethal violence, in what the judge described as a “journey to horror”. The Alcàsser case is a complicated one, full of controversy and numerous loose ends.
