Harry Styles to step into Elvis role?

The former One Direction heartthrob could be stepping into the jumpsuits of the King of Rock ‘n Roll.

The iconic image, Elvis Presley performs on his now famous NBC ‘comeback’ concert in 1969.

In 1979 Kurt Russell starred as Elvis Presley in a movie about his life for ABC America. Now nearly 45 years after Presley’s death aged just 42 another film on the life and times of ‘The King’ is set to hit the big-screen. It follows the success of biops on Queen singer Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody and Sir Elton John in Rocketman.

A number of young Hollywood heartthrobs are in contention to take on the lead role alongside former boyband singer Harry Styles.  Bovada, a leading online sportsbook, has just released official odds on who will land the role and Styles is the early betting favorite, followed by Miles Teller.

The life of Elvis is being scripted for the big screen by Warner Bros with the project overseen by Baz Luhrmann. The Elvis Presley biopic will, according to CNN, also star Tom Hanks as the singer’s agent Col. Tom Parker.

Elvis was a major chart star from the 1950s up until his death with hits including Jailhouse Rock, Are You Lonesome Tonight? Way Down? Burning Love, The Wonder of You and Hound Dog to name only a few. Presley was also no stranger to the big screen himself having starred in several movies between 1956 and 1969 including Love Me Tender, Viva Las Vegas and Change of Habit. Many of the films also saw their soundtrack singles become big hits for Elvis.

Born in Tupelo, Mississippi, and relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, with his family when he was 13 years old. His music career began there in 1954, recording at Sun Records.
