American Prime Suspect Remake Heading To UK
The short-lived American remake of Prime Suspect, starring Maria Bello, is heading to the UK.
The Universal Channel has picked up the UK rights to the NBC remake of Prime Suspect. The original ITV detective drama starred Helen Mirren and was created by Lynda La Plante. The British series ran for seven seasons between 1991 and 2006. The American remake, developed by Alexandra Cunningham, lasted just 13 episodes.
Prime Suspect aired on NBC in the Autumn and the broadcaster had high hopes for the detective drama. However, ratings started off as average and never reached levels high enjoy to justify its continued existence. While NBC was quick to dispatch The Playboy Club from its schedules the broadcaster was more hesitant in killing off Prime Suspect – it hoped given time the remake would find an audience. After 13 episodes though NBC admitted defeat and opted not to order further instalments.
Prime Suspect USA will air on the Universal Channel in the UK from June. The remake was produced by ITV Studios America along with Universal Media Studios and Film 44. Starring alongside Maria Bello in the drama were Aidan Quinn, Tim Griffin and Kirk Acevedo.
The Universal Channel is on Sky Channel 113 and Virgin Media channel 162.
