Festive fall for Corrie’s Rita

Coronation Street’s Rita Tanner is to be placed in mortal peril this Christmas.

The Sun reports that Rita – a regular on the cobbles since 1972 – will take a tumble while putting up fairy lights. She will be trapped for several days underneath her Christmas tree, the paper adds.

Rita’s agony is prolonged because her friends and neighbours all think that she has gone away for the Christmas period. However, her ordeal is eventually brought to an end when a fellow street resident does cotton on to it by chance, with Rita later admitting that she thought she was a goner.

“Dev puts up the Christmas tree for Rita but he doesn’t have time to sort the fairy lights. She ends up putting the lights on herself but when switching them on she trips and falls, pulling the tree on top of her.” – The Sun quoting an unnamed insider

Bosses on the ITV aired saga hope that the storyline will shine a light on the loneliness that can be suffered by the elderly in the festive period.
