Prime time spin-off for The Chase

ITV has commissioned a brand new prime time spin-off of The Chase.

Beat The Chasers will be hosted by Bradley Walsh and will star all five Chasers.

“The contestants are brave facing one Chaser, let alone all five. With that group of top quizzing brains working as a team, it’s going to take some beating. But I can’t wait to see who’s going to take them on.” – Bradley Walsh

On this new series, for the first time ever, Anne Hegerty, Mark Labbett, Jenny Ryan, Paul Sinha and Shaun Wallace will compete together as a team with contestants taking them on for huge cash prizes.

Beat The Chasers has been developed by Potato, part of ITV Studios, who are also responsible for The Chase. The series will be stripped across a week next year.

“Chasers and contestants alike will really need to hold their nerve to come out victorious in this new spin on the quizzing format.” – Katie Rawcliffe, Head of Entertainment at ITV

Airing since 2009, The Chase has established itself as a firm teatime favourite with editions regularly attracting over 3.5m viewers. Previous cash ins on the popular brand include The Chase: Celebrity Special and Family Chase which were launched in 2011 and 2017 respectively.

The show, which airs weekdays at 5pm, sees a team of four contestants take on one of the chasers. Each player must take part in a quick-fire general knowledge round – ‘the cash builder’ – with each correct answer worth £1,000. They are then tabled three offers by the chaser: the money they won alongside higher and lower amounts which – if chosen – see them take either a step towards the chaser on the main game board or a step away.

They then must answer further questions to get their chosen amount back to the team prize pot. Each correct answer sees the contestant move down the game board whilst the chaser pursues upon also getting the question right; get a question wrong and it increases your chances of being caught by the chaser.

The contestants left standing go on to take part in the ‘final chase’ where they must answer as many questions correctly as possible before the chaser tries to beat their score. Earlier this month, Bradley Walsh revealed on Good Morning Britain that the show is set to introduce a new chaser in the coming months.

“It’s accessible, people love it, it’s ten years old now. What can you say? We’ve got a brand new chaser coming in for another new series now. It’s all good.” – Walsh speaking on GMB

A spokesperson for the show later confirmed to The Sun that “a new chaser will be revealed in due course”.
