Coma storyline for Coronation Street?

Tabloid reports suggest that Shona Platt will be left in a coma this Christmas.

The Sun was first to report that Julia Goulding’s character will be ‘gunned down in dramatic scenes on Christmas Day’ after a fight breaks out between Gary Windass and Derek Milligan.

The tabloid goes on to state that ‘heart-wrenching’ hospital-based scenes have been filmed as David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) is left distraught by his wife’s condition.

“There is always a battle between Corrie and rival BBC One soap [EastEnders] to see who can have the most extreme Christmas day episode and ITV producers have pulled out all the stops to bring in the most viewing figures. It’s a risky storyline touching on gun crime, but it breaks the mould and will have fans talking,” an insider told the paper

Another insider added: “Shona will be left fighting for survival with her family devastated at what’s happened.”

The scenes will lead to Goulding’s temporary departure from the soap as the actress prepares to welcome her first child with husband Ben Silver.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV, STV and UTV.
