Launched by ATV in 1981 the popular game show is set for another revival – only this time its on the stage rather than television.

The mascot of the show, a moo-ing bull, named Bully (pictured above) is off on a tour of UK theatres starting tomorrow and he promises to bring with him some of the greatest ever darts players. Together, they’ll be joining members of the audience to win the contents of his prize board.

Producers promise that all the faithful elements of the historic cheap and cheerful 1980s classic be recreated with some competitive darts thrown in as well, as the legends renew old rivalries.

Produced originally in Birmingham at the ATV Centre, the show ran until 1995 and at its peak over 15 million viewers turned in on Sunday evenings, the format mixed general knowledge questions with darts in order to gain points. The show continues to air in repeat form on Sky’s Challenge gameshow channel and recently special revivals by ITV and a full new series by Challenge have taken Bullseye to a new generation of fans.

The show was notorious for its prizes, including speedboats, caravans and garden furniture. All contestants also were able to take away the much sought after ‘bendy Bully’ toy.

The mainstay host of the television series was comedian Jim Bowen (pictured, below, right), however due to illness he’s taking things easy at the moment and won’t be part of the theatre tour.
