AMC Axes The Killing

AMC has axed its crime drama The Killing after just two seasons.

The Killing has just been killed off by its broadcaster AMC after just two seasons but the axe isn’t that surprising. Ratings for the second season were down on the first by a fair margin which meant many were speculating the axe would fall long before it finally did.

“After much deliberation, we’ve come to the difficult decision not to renew The Killing for a third season. AMC is incredibly proud of the show and is fortunate to have worked with such a talented team on this project, from showrunner Veena Sud and our terrific partners at Fox Television Studios to the talented, dedicated crew and exceptional cast.” – AMC Statement

Fans of The Killing should not despair just yet because the studio behind it is searching for a new home for the series. “Fox Television Studios is extremely proud of The Killing, the extraordinary writing staff and crew, and what we believe is one of the best casts on television. We will proceed to try to find another home for the show.”

Expect some speculative stories over the next few days as to where that new home may be. A list of possible candidates would surely include Showtime, Starz, HBO, TNT or FX? The Killing is a remake of the Danish drama Forbrydelsen (called The Killing in English speaking countries) which became a surprise hit around the world with viewers – especially in the UK where it developed a cult following and has led to an explosion of Scandinavian dramas being picked up by broadcasters in the country.

The original Danish drama starred Sofie Grabol while AMC’s remake starred Michelle Forbes, Mireille Enos, Billy Campbell and Joel Kinnaman with Alan Dale and Callum Reith Rennie in recurring roles.
