Supernatural To 'Reset' Mythology

The forthcoming 8th season of The CW‘s Supernatural will ‘reset’ its mythology.

Jeremy Carver has returned to Supernatural after several years away, in which he worked on Syfy‘s version of Being Human, and the new show-runner is planning to make some changes to the drama for its 8th season. Carver, who wrote several fan favourite episodes of Supernatural before departing to pastures new, has revealed he feels the series has become buried by its own mythology.

“The one thing that struck me [while] watching Season 7 was I felt like the show got a little bit buried under its mythology….It became a little hard to tell exactly what was going on at times. The longtime fans all deserve intricate plot, but it felt a little burdensome.” – Jeremy Carver speaking to TVLine

Carver is hoping the 8th season will still appeal to the fans of Supernatural but will also attract newer viewers and part of that will be achieved be resetting the series somewhat “Resetting our mythology was one idea that I tried to bring in”. As for the 8th series itself Carver gave a few hints “Part of this season is realizing they didn’t just spend several years together; they really matured in different ways…It’s one thing to get in a car with your brother in year one, but eight years later, you’ve both matured and grown. You’re both changing and trying to find out who you are. There’s a lot of that type of exploration for these guys this year.”

The 8th season may not even have hit the air yet but The CW’s president Mark Pedowitz has already revealed “conversations” are taking place over a ninth season. If ratings are good for the 8th season and if actors Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are willing to return then it looks like The CW will order a ninth season but it is still early days on that front!
