TV Choice: Olympic celebration in EastEnders

EastEnders will be referencing the incredible success of Team Great Britain in tonight’s episode following the triumphant GB Olympic successes at the weekend.

In scenes filmed earlier today, EastEnders will celebrate the recent achievements with a scene between Jean, Tyler and Ray where they discuss how brilliant Team GB are and how proud they feel to be living in London – just a stone’s throw away from the Olympic Stadium.

Executive Producer, Lorraine Newman, said: “Following EastEnders involvement with the Olympic Torch Relay we are delighted to have the opportunity to reflect the current sentiment of the entire country. Team GB have made so many people truly proud to be British and we wish them continued success.”

Previous EastEnders scene additions have included the Royal Wedding, Michael Jackson’s death, Obama’s Presidency and the Elections. Quick re-writes and scene insertions into UK soap opera were pioneered by Phil Redmond at Channel 4 during Brookside’s 21-year run between 1982 and 2003.

EastEnders, tonight at 7.30pm on BBC Two

  • Jesus that was dreadful. Even for EastEnders that was more clunky and stilted than usual. Pathetic!

  • I’m surprised they didn’t end the scene with, “after all… regular exercise could be a considerable factor in reducing the risk of heart disease…”
Well done EE for a brilliant tribute to Acorn Antiques. Most certainly NOT TV gold!

  • That was cringe making. 10 out of 10 for effort but seemed too much like shoe-horning in as many results as they could, didn’t seem like natural conversation at all.

  • What a cack show xx
