Julie Goodyear to appear in Celebrity Big Brother
Former Coronation Street actress Julie Goodyear has reportedly signed up for the next series of Celebrity Big Brother on Channel Five.
Goodyear is the latest celebrity to be linked to the next series which will air on Channel Five in August following the regular – and this year cut-down – run of the reality television programme. Earlier this year Channel Five signed a deal with Endemol to run a second series of Celebrity Big Brother this year following the successful run of the show in January which was won by Denise Welch.
The Sun claims that Julie Goodyear has signed up for the new series in a deal worth £300,000 with ‘sources’ telling the tabloid newspaper ‘Julie may be getting on a bit but she’s certainly game for a laugh. Denise proved that the Corrie stars bring in a decent audience and don’t mind poking fun at themselves and having a laugh. Julie is keen as mustard to get in the house and is already talking about winning’
Goodyear played Rovers barmaid, later landlady, Bet Lynch in Coronation Street between 1970 and 1995 returning for short stints in 1999, 2002 and 2003. Goodyear reportedly was willing to return to Corrie once more for the on-screen funeral of Rovers barmaid Betty Turpin (Betty Driver, who died last year).
Last week it was claimed that former EastEnders actress Cheryl Fergison, who played Heather Trott in the BBC One soap until her character was controversially killed off earlier this year, had signed up for the next series of Celebrity Big Brother. Several other names have also been linked to the new series such as Julian Clary, Lee Ryan and Nadine Coyle. As Celebrity Big Brother doesn’t return until the Summer many more names are likely to be suggested by the press between now and then.
