Ofcom awards first local TV licences
Media regulator Ofcom has awarded its first licences for two new local TV stations.
Latest TV for Brighton and Lincolnshire Living for Grimsby have been awarded licences today to broadcast on Freeview for the next 12 years.
No other companies submitted in these areas making its quicker for Ofcom to make a decision. This leaves 17 other areas in which local companies are bidding to run new local television stations.
“We’re thrilled to be awarded local TV status, it’s a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase further the great things Northern Lincolnshire has to offer.” – Lia Nici, Lincolnshire Living’s Executive Producer
Lincolnshire Living is already broadcasting on Virgin Media in the local area as Channel Seven.
Ofcom has said that they hope the new channels will be on air by 2013.
