Emmerdale's Lister "thrilled" with exit plot

Emmerdale star Tom Lister has said that he is “thrilled” with the way his bad boy character Carl King departed from the soap.

In tonight’s (17 October) live episode, viewers saw Carl hit over the head with a brick twice, first by Chas (Lucy Pargeter) after he attacked her and for a second time by Cameron Murray (Dominic Power) after he continued to blackmail him over his affair with Chas.
A shot of Carl’s lifeless body was among the final moments of the dramatic instalment.

“It’s been the best part of ten years, so when I found out I was going I was surprised, but I was kind of like, ‘Yeah, alright!’,” Lister told ITV.com

“And when I read the script for the first time, to be honest I was thrilled. It just seemed like a really nice way to end what has been an amazing journey for my character. There was always going to come a point where I was going to have to face some reckoning for what I’d done. And I just felt that it was a really good way to tie those ends up.

“There was some amazing stuff in it, there was some amazing content. It was a privilege for them to trust me with that on a live episode. I was excited at the prospect.”

Emmerdale continues tomorrow at 7pm.
