Time Team to end in 2013

After 18 years, 20 series and more than 40 specials, Time Team will air its final series on Channel 4 in 2013.

The show will however continue in the form of one-off specials until at least 2014 and repeats of the series will continue to air on More4 and Channel 4.

Head of Factual Ralph Lee says: “I am incredibly proud that, as well as providing hundreds of hours of education and entertainment on Channel 4, Time Team has invested, over and above production costs, more than £4m in archaeology in Britain over the past 18 years. Time Team will continue to be on our screens for at least a further two years and we are discussing other ideas around archaeology with Tim Taylor, Time Team’s creator and the production team behind it.”
Time Team host Tony Robinson adds: “Time Team was not only high-quality public service television; it also attracted a large and passionate audience both in the UK and overseas. I’m proud to have been associated with it.”

Twenty years of Time Team will be celebrated in the last programme of the final series in 2013 – looking back over the highs and the lows, the people and the places and the achievements of a series which ran for over 250 episodes.
The digs have provided a wealth of information and research material currently stored by Wessex Archaeology. Channel 4, along with the programme makers Videotext and Picture house TV will work to maintain this archive as part of Time Team’s academic legacy.
Channel 4 has reaffirmed its commitment to history programming with a host of new commissions including The Hood and Attack of the Zeppelins.
The Hood follows an expedition to solve the last mysteries of HMS Hood: the greatest British warship of WWII, while Attack of the Zeppelins tells the story of a terror bombing campaign that took place in London during the First World War. Both shows are expected to air early next year.

  • Time Team has been part of my life since Episode One.Although the new format over the last couple of years has been,in my opinion, inferior,I am still unable to imagine life without Phil,Mick and Tony.

  • Sad sad news… hope c4 bring us an archaeology programme to replace it. Not war history…ancient history.

  • I have thoroughly enjoyed Time Team throughout all the time its been on TV and was sad that this was the last one. I recently met Tony at our local library here in Shropshire and found him to be such a very good speaker and very funny. My grandson who is 13 came with me to the library and did some reading for Tony and it made his evening. My daughter also loves Time Team (couldn’t get my 3 sons interested though). I have been watching some older ones on Discovery history and found them fascinating and very good viewing, Hope there will be some Time Team Specials, Have loved the team so much over the years,my daughter gave me one of her Time Team books to have Tony sign it for me. Thnaks so much for such excellent viewing, Barbara
