Corrie cast cull denied
Coronation Street has denied that a number of characters are to be axed from the soap.
A report in The Sun today suggested that characters such as Marcus Dent (Charlie Condou), Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis), Karl Munro (John Michie), Izzy Armstrong (Cherylee Houston) and Mandy Kamara (Pamela Nomvete) will be written out when new producer Stuart Blackburn joins the soap in January.
However, a spokesperson has denied the report after being contacted by Digital Spy.
“No such discussions have been had. The new producer would not even start discussing future storylines until he starts in January 2013.” – Coronation Street spokesperson
It was announced last month that Blackburn, current series producer for Emmerdale, will take over as producer of Coronation Street from January.
Current Coronation Street boss Phil Collinson is expected to remain with ITV in a drama development role, while Blackburn will be replaced at Emmerdale by Kate Oates, a former producer of BBC Radio 4 drama The Archers.
