Fellowes developing new US period drama?
A new period drama for US television is being developed by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes.
The Gilded Age is in the works for NBC and Universal Television. Set in 1880’s New York, the potential series would revolve around the American Renaissance and the “millionaire titans” of that time.
Fellowes commented: “This was a vivid time, with dizzying, brilliant ascents and calamitous falls, of record breaking ostentation and savage rivalry; a time when money was king.”
NBC said the project would be “an epic tale of the princes of the American Renaissance, and the vast fortunes they made – and spent”.
It was recently confirmed that Downton Abbey has been re-commissioned for a fourth series and 2013 Christmas special for ITV. It was also recently announced that Fellowes would front a new factual series for ITV about historical houses.
