No series for The Munsters reboot
The revival of sixties sitcom The Munsters as a drama, entitled Mockingbird Lane, isn’t to go any further than the pilot episode – which aired earlier this year.
The NBC remake saw Jerry O’Connell as Herman, the Munster family patriarch with Portia de Rossi playing the character of Lilly and Eddie Izzard as Grandpa. Airing as a Halloween treat the show managed decent ratings in its Friday night slot with 5.4 million viewers tuning in.
The re-boot was overseen by Bryan Fuller who re-imaged The Munsters as a drama series renamed Mockingbird Lane – after the road in which the family lived in the classic sitcom. Mockingbird Lane was in development for some time prior to launch with NBC putting back its intended premier in order to allow Fuller and his team extra time to work on the project.
Fuller had indicated after the airing the show had a good chance of going to a longer running series. However he revealed via a social networking site this isn’t now the case.
“I tweet with a heavy heart. NBC not moving forward with #MockingbirdLane. From producers and cast, thank you all for enthusiasm and support.” He told his Twitter followers.
The Munsters originally aired between 1964 and 1966 with a successful revival, in a sitcom format, The Munsters Today in 1988 running until 1991.
