GaydarRadio To Stop Broadcasting

After more than ten years on-air GaydarRadio has announced it is to stop broadcasting from next week.

The decision to stop GaydarRadio broadcasting is because the station’s owners QSoft Consulting is quitting the radio business to focus instead on its core business; its dating websites. The company has blamed the cost of investing in digital for its decision to quit radio. According to QSoft GaydarRadio had 750,000 listeners per month via DAB, online or through mobiles.

QSoft will be transferring its radio licences to Gaydio from Monday 7th January – next week. Gaydio is based in Manchester while GaydarRadio was transmitted from London. As part of the agreement the Gaydar dating brand will feature heavily in Gaydio’s continued output.

GaydarRadio launched in 2001 originally as an internet only station but in 2002 moved onto the Sky platform. Amongst its line up of presenters over the years are former Big Brother contestants Richard Newman and Lea Walker who appeared together in the seventh series of the reality show. Newman had his own radio show on GaydarRadio as well as the series he co-presenter with Walker titled The Dicky & Dolly Show. Former Blue Peter presenter Stuart Miles also had a regular programme at one point on the station.
