No charges for Royal prank DJs
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has decided that no charges will be brought over hoax call to King Edward VII hospital.
The Australian DJs, Mel Greig and Michael Christian, will not face any charges in the UK following a CPS review into the hoax phone call they made in December 2012 to the hospital where the Duchess of Cambridge was admitted following acute morning sickness.
The two DJs pre-recorded a hoax phone call in which they pretended to the Queen and Prince Charles trying to see how the Duchess was doing. The nurse who took the initial phone call,Jacintha Saldanha, committed suicide days later prompting Greig and Christian to go into hiding and leave their radio show.
“Having carefully reviewed the evidence currently available, we have concluded that there is no evidence to support a charge of manslaughter and that although there is some evidence to warrant further investigation of offences under the Data Protection Act 1998, the Malicious Communications Act 1988 and the Communications Act 2003, no further investigation is required because any potential prosecution would not be in the public interest.” – CPS
It was revealed earlier this week that the pair will not be returning to 2Day FM after being left out of the new schedules.
