Thousands attend Doctor Who convention
Thousands of people are attending the official Doctor Who convention in Cardiff this weekend.
The convention is the first official one since Doctor Who was revived, by Russell T Davies, in 2005. It was originally billed as an “adult convention” which the BBC was in response to demand from older fans of the sci-fi series. The convention is running across this weekend with tickets costing around £99 per person.
Amongst those attending the convention from Doctor Who are lead stars Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill. Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill will bow out of the sci-fi series in the next season with former Emmerdale actress Jenna-Louise Coleman joining in this year’s Christmas Special as the show’s new companion. Matt Smith will remain in his role as the 11th Doctor.
Doctor Who’s current show-runner Steven Moffat is also attending the convention as is the show’s FX supervisor Danny Hargreaves who regularly appeared on the BBC Three series Doctor Who: Confidential.
