Character returning to The Vampire Diaries

A previously killed off character will return to The Vampire Diaries for the supernatural drama’s season three finale – but, as ever, there’s a twist.

The CW series will end its current run on May 10th and actress Sara Canning will reprise her role of Aunt Jenna Sommers for the finale. The actress played Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Jeremy’s (Steven R McQueen) Aunt for two seasons but was killed off in the penultimate episode of season two, The Son Also Rises.

However, while Jenna may be appearing in the season three finale she will remain very dead because according to Zap2it her appearance will be via flashbacks. The website reports that Elena will examine her life before her adoptive parents death.

Since leaving The Vampire Diaries last year Sara Canning has appeared in Supernatural and The Hunt for the I-5 Killer. The Canadian actress will part of the cast of the forthcoming Primeval: New World, a spin-off from the British sci-fi series Primeval.
