FX Orders The Bridge Remake
FX has ordered a remake of the Scandinavian drama series The Bridge.
The Scandinavian drama is a co-production between Denmark and Sweden and stars Sofia Helin and Kim Bodnia. The critically acclaimed drama has been re-commissioned for a second series in Scandinavia and has become a hit around the world much like The Killing – which has already been re-made for American audiences – and political drama Borgen.
FX has ordered a new 13 part remake of The Bridge for American audiences with the thriller set to star Diane Kruger and Demian Bichir. The adaptation will be penned by Meredith Sitehm writer on the critically acclaimed Homeland – itself a remake of a foreign series. The drama will relocate to the Texas/Mexico border for its stateside version.
The FX version is not the only remake of The Bridge in development. UK broadcaster Sky Atlantic is developing its own version re-named The Tunnel and with the action relocated to France and the UK. The Sky version will star Game of Thrones actor Stephen Dillane and Birdsong/Harry Potter actress Clémence Poésy. The Tunnel will also star Tom Bateman, Angel Coulby and Joseph Mawle.
Scandinavian drama has proven to be a hit with audiences around the world with Wallander, The Bridge, The Killing and Borgen all hits.
